Today I am going to review the Sanyo HD Projector PLV-Z700. This an HD LCD projector, with an lamp brightness of 1200 ANSI lumens and a contrast ratio of up to 10,000:1. This is also an HD projector 1080p, meaning that the there are 1080 lines of resolution and the image is sequentially updated (progressive scan) which means the image is more stable and higher quality than non 1080p HD projectors.

The marketing material describes the projector as an entry level projector, but at a price of approximately £1,000 plus this seems quite high to be considered entry level.

First up, the looks. Well, whatever the quality of the projector, it is not supported by the look of this machine. Essentially it comes in a pale silver case in the shape of a small box with a lense on the front. To say that it looks a bit dated is an understatement. If I were to spend a morning with my young son building a pretend HD projector out of a cereal box, a toilet roll holder and some silver paint I would probably come up with something in close approximation to the look of the Sanyo HD Projector PLV-Z700. Sorry but the design is dated and clunky looking and for what is a pretty decent HD projector. Still, if the projector is placed in a relatively discrete location in your home cinema set-up then the looks really don’t matter. If however you are going to place this projector centre stage then don’t expect your mates to be overwhelmed by your new projector, more likely you will get a bit of stick.

Ok, now that the looks are out of the way we can move on the projector itself. First of all, it weighs in at about 11kg which is pretty heavy for a projector, and means that when you set it up you need to make sure it is stable and probably out of reach, as if it were knocked over then it could cause some nasty injury. Nevertheless, once in position, and turned on, you are sure to be impressed by the quality of the image. The sharpness is impressive and the quality of the picture first class.

The lamp has a high lumens rating and is therefore able to project a quality image over a reasonable distance, certainly over 5m which makes the projector great for using in a large room. One of the problems of setting up your own home cinema is that larger rooms tend to be better as they have more room for seating and better quality acoustics, but they do present their own problems and picture quality from a projector a long way from the HD projector screen is one such issue. The Sanyo HD Projector PLV-Z700 essentially solves this problem. This is backed up by the quality of the zoom on the lense which allows a sharp image to be created at each of the varying distances you choose.

All in all, if you can overcome your shock at the clunky design, this is a first rate HD projector that you would do well to consider as a purchase for your home cinema set-up. All you need with your Sanyo HD Projector PLV-Z700 is a decent quality 5.1 sound system and a good quality HD projector screen and you will be all set. I commend this projector to you.

I thought that today I would discuss one of the latest crazes in the search for the perfect television picture; the HD Projector 1080p. This device projects an image that can offer an 18,000:1 contrast ratio allowing you watch movies, sporting events and other programs in never before seen quality. The HD Projector 1080p is available at most stores and with the holiday season coming up it is certainly a much sought after item. 1080p is the latest in high definition, with the potential to give you twice the resolution of the 1080i viewing that was previously available.

Some of the features that you’ll want to look for in an HD projector 1080p is the contrast ratio for one. You’ll also want to look and see what kind of lamp powers your HD projector 1080p and whether it lasts for a long time and if it is energy efficient. Most of the models on the market today will offer this, but you should still double check to make sure. Also, ask how easy it is to maintain the HD projector 1080p, and whether or not it has a decent dust filtration system Dust can make your electronics last a shorter time than they should. One other feature to watch for is what kind of cooling system your HD projector 1080p offers.

The choice between a HD projector and a HDTV is a subject of much debate among those who are home theater enthusiasts and the answer is based upon your personal preference. One thing to consider is that you need a lot of space for an HD projector, and you also need to have lighting control. Basically, you should dedicate an entire room to your HD projector 1080p while your flat panel HDTV may simply only take up a small part of the wall. You’ll need to decide if the extra resolution is worth it and whether or not you have the space to accommodate.

The price of HD projectors 1080p can vary, but begin at well over £500. Choosing the best HD projector is a personal choice, but the low end models from brands like Epsom will be around £1,000. You can choose from the higher end brands like Sony, but you will end up paying several thousand pounds for this privilege. However, if you happen to like Sony, and want your projector to last for a very long time then you may want to invest the extra money for a top quality brand. It all comes down to choice for your HD projector 1080p and there is plenty of it.

A little bit of research into the HD projector will quickly show you that the cost of such a projector can be quite steep. A reasonably good quality HD projector can set you back £1,000 quite easily and you need to think about the type of screen you plan to project onto as well. It is not surprising therefore that options to purchase your HD projector from overseas and import it into the country become an attractive seeming option. But before you take the plunge and place the order you should just consider a few things that might make the import option less attractive.

You need to think about taking out some protection against delivery problems. What will you do if your HD projector gets damaged in transit, whose responsibility is it to ensure safe delivery, who pays the cost of returning faulty products. You should ensure you are protected from these problems by reading the small print (terms and conditions) properly and asking questions and seeking confirmation from the vendor. Possibly think about taking out insurance, the cost of the insurance may be irritating but the overall cost may still make it worth your while.

It is quite likely that the warranty provided with your HD projector relates only to the country in which it is sold. So what will you do if you have a problem a few months down the line. Again, you may have to make separate arrangements to get peace of mind, and this can push the cost back up again.

In summary it may well seem that importing your HD projector from overseas is a cost effective plan but make sure that you understand the risks associated with undertaking such a course of action. You want to get hours of pleasure from your HD projector. Make sure you don’t put this at risk for the sake of a few quid.

The reality is that a home cinema is now a distinctly achievable outcome with the release of the high definition or HD projector. We can now, in the comfort of our own home, watch television, play games, or enjoy a DVD with an image that is an astonishing 92 inches thanks to an up to date HD projector.

Reliability, quality and portability are the hallmarks of the modern HD projector which means it is well within the grasp of the homeowner these days. Indeed, HD projectors are now equivalent in price to the average LCD television or plasma screen. This means that you now have the option of purchasing an HD projector instead of a television.

Flat screen televisions have become very popular in the UK and I believe home cinema projectors, indeed HD projectors, are perfectly able to reach the same level of popularity. Although in the case of HD projectors the only significant concern may well be space, but actually if you have a room large enough for a projector screen then the home cinema may well be within touching distance for your home.

Don’t be put off by the low price of HD projectors. For not much more that £500 you can purchase a good quality HD Projector which is reliable and upto date and I guarantee you won’t be disappointed with it. By spending slightly more, possibly up to £1,000, you will be able to get one of the better quality HD projectors on the market.

You may indeed be astonished because at this level you really can get the latest and most up to date HD projector. Why not spend that little bit extra on your HD projector. If you do you may just get fantastic performance from your home cinema instead of just ordinary results.

The current HD projector market for home cinemas has two different variants of technology. We will review the LCD HD projector first and then follow it up with a look at the DLP HD projector. They do have slight differences but both offer great quality. LCD HD projectors for the home cinema are less expensive but still capable of giving exceptional quality. You get the best performance and smoothest picture quality from the DLP HD projector.

So don’t delay. Take a look at what is available in the HD projector market and start planning that home cinema experience in the comfort of your own home today.

One thing you really ought to know about HD projectors is an effect called keystoning. Keystoning is a term to describe quite a technical term for an effect that you see from your HD projector in certain circumstances. I am no technical expert but I am going to give the description of keystoning a good go. Hopefully you will understand what I am actually trying to say and not get too confused.

Essentially keystoning occurs when your brand new HD projector is not positioned at right angles to the screen, or maybe the screen is not completely flat, meaning it may have some sort of kink or bend in it. As a result the picture that you see on the screen is not flat but sort of bent out of shape too. If this does occur it can be very distracting and very disappointing as you may have just purchased your HD projector and be excitedly sitting down to watch your first movie on your home cinema set up only to find the picture distorted and doubts in your mind as to the quality of your HD projector and possibly whether you have indeed made the right choice.

You probably want to know now what you can do about it. Well it is worth pointing out that just because your HD projector does have this keystoning effect does not mean that all is lost. A few years back HD projectors did not have an inbuilt facility to deal with this problem, but it was usually dealt with by moving the screen or furniture until you found a position from which the keystoning effect was either gone altogether or did not present a particular problem. Fortunately these days the average HD projector has functionality that is particularly established in order to deal with the issue of keystoning.

These days there are two methods of fixing the problem of keystoning. You can either do it manually or you can do it digitally. Manual adjustment essentially involves tweaking the lens to try to remove the effect which can work well in lots of cases but not in all cases and you really want the best possible picture from your HD projector.

The solution tends to come from digital correction. Both LCD and DLP HD projectors are digital display devices. By adding a special algorithm to the digital scaled image the HD projector can change the image to accommodate the flawed image and this essentially solves the problem.

With the wide range to choose your HD projector from on the market today making the best and most informed decision can indeed be trying. Other articles on this site have looked at the dimensions of your prospective HD projector. The weight of your projector. In addition you have read that you need to consider whether the brightness of the lamp will be sufficient for the room in which you intend to set up your home cinema. There are a number of other factors that you should consider and we will address these in subsequent posts, however this post is going to concentrate on what type of HD projector you should be choosing.

It may not be something you were aware of but the typical HD projector for many years was only available in LCD form. LCD stands for liquid crystal display. LCD displays have been used with great success in computer and home entertainment equipment for a number of years now. In fact such has been the success of LCD displays, and perhaps more importantly the reduction in the cost of manufacture of LCD screens that LCD technology has become pervasive, including our everyday HD projector. One problem with LCD HD projectors was that light from the lamp needed to be filtered through a red, blue and yellow LCD panels to produce the full colour projected image. This requirement resulted in the necessity to have three separate colour panels and this meant that the HD projector case needed to be larger to cope both with the panels and the additional electrical wiring that also required accommodation.

As with all things, technology waits for no man and an innovative company in the US call Texas Instruments attacked the problem and appear to have solved it with the of DLP technology. In a DLP technology HD projector the light from the lamp is converted immediately to a picture before it is projected. As a result a great deal of space is saved within the HD projector case allowing HD projectors to be smaller, more compact and lighter. This is great news, however there remains a small niggle. The accuracy of the DLP picture is not as good as that of the LCD picture. Is this important? Does it significantly impair the DLP HD projector. This is an answer only you can give, but generally speaking in a small home cinema set up high colour accuracy is unlikely to be a major problem and therefore I personally do not see it as a big deal.

Most people dream of setting up an HD projector in their home in order to create a home cinema. Many is the time that I have laid in bed idly dreaming of setting up my own home cinema arrangement. I have picked out the particular room that I think is appropriate. I imagine the set up, how the room would look, where the particular HD projector I have purchased would be located. I have even imagined what sort of seating my home cinema would have. I would go for comfortable deep and soft leather sofas. I would also choose to suspend my HD projector from the ceiling so that is wasn’t in the way. All remaining clutter would be cleared out and only a drinks table with snack, or possible a refridgerator would be in the room. The lights would be dimmable and generally speaking I would be attempting to set the room up to be as much like a real cinema as I possibly could.

Have you had such thoughts in the past? I bet you have? The great thing is that with the cost of an typical HD projector having fallen so much in recent years, coupled with the significant improvement in the quality of that HD projector the home cinema set up is not only within the grasp of the more wealthy members of todays society, but actually within the range of most families finances. In addition clever pieces of storage furniture can mean that you can easily turn even the most cramped everyday living spaces without significant effort into that home cinema arrangement of your dreams and don’t forget the HD projector screen, easy to forget and yet can be the difference between a great home cinema and a disappointing one.

This is in fact what this website is all about. The intention was to show the normal person that an HD projector is now so well specified and built and has now reached a point where it is a great deal more affordable than in the past that you can in fact turn your dreams into reality. I hope you can appreciate this. A lot of time and effort has gone into researching the articles about HD projectors on this site and you are being offered the opportunity to benefit from that effort for free. Let’s hope you are able to take full advantage of this and it enables you to make the most informed decision you are able to about your HD projector purchase. I would encourage you to read on.

HD projector brightness is essentially the brightness of the lamp within the projector. Clearly the brightness of the lamp in your brand new HD projector is important. Factors such as the position in the room of the projector, whether the projector sits in light or shade and perhaps more importantly whether the projection screen is in a light part of the room should be taken into account. In essence this can be summed up by stating that in a light room the brightness of the HD projector lamp need to be brighter than that necessary in a darker room. This may seem to you as though it is stating the obvious and to a large degree it is, however the brightness of the lamp in your HD projector will be a factor in the suitability of the location you have chosen to set up your home cinema project.

Generally speaking the brighter the lamp in your HD projector the higher the quality of the projector. Having said that the quality of HD projectors generally has really advance significantly in recent years to the extent that brightness is no longer the important factor that it used to be. Still it does remain something you really need to consider when selecting your choice of HD projector.

ANSI lumens are the units that denote how bright an individual HD projector’s lamp is. By using units such as the ANSI lumen you are able to compare the brightness of one HD projector to another and this assists you in making an informed purchasing decision. Most HD projectors on the market today are likely to have an ANSI lumens value of the order of 1,500. It may in fact be in excess of this 1,500 level however. This sort of brightness measure is actually perfectly sufficient to provide a good quality picture in a large room with a capacity of the order of twenty individuals.

I will let you into a secret at this point. To be honest, the brightness of your HD projector actually only really matters if you are intending that your projector is going to be used in a bright room. In reality most home cinema arrangements are usually set up in rooms in the home which are able to be darkened down. This generally gives the impression that you are really in a cinema, which is of course likely to be the effect you were attempting to achieve when you set the home cinema up. Brightness of your HD projector when being used in a darkened room is not particularly significant.

We have now decided the most appropriate method of adjusting the height of the HD projector if the intention is that the projector is being placed upon some sort of unit of furniture that may or may not be level and you still need to create a stable platform for the HD projector such that it is not disturbed by unexpected jolts and presumably is level as if it were not level the projected image would not be level which if you were watching a movie or feature film would make difficult viewing.

Other fitting considerations are ones which relate to HD projector placements which do not involve the projector sitting on a platform, be it a unit of furniture sitting in the centre of a room, or a specially designed platform suspended in some manner from the ceiling. This form of fitting would involve some form of arm attachment that may be bolted either to a wall, or more likely a ceiling. Weight is an important factor when considering whether this sort of placement is what you are interested in, especially as in doing so you must also consider the ability of the wall or the ceiling to take the weight of the HD projector without danger of falling off, or down. Remember you are likely to be making a significant investment in your HD projector and lack of forethought at this point might ruin all your plans to establish the home cinema arrangement of your dreams.

So check to ensure that your HD projector actually has a fitting capability that allows you to attach an arm, whether it be a straight arm or a hinged arm so that you can indeed set up yout HD projector as you wish to. Next you must take a close look at the mechanism by which the arm is attached to the HD projector. Again you really do not want to spend all that money on a brand new HD projector only to get it home and find that you are unable to fit it to the arm you have previously purchased. This would be a costly mistake.

That pretty much wraps up the considerations you ought to take account of in respect of the weight and dimensions of your HD projector when you are undertaking your research into which particular HD projector model you choose for the home cinema project of your dreams.

In the previous post on the critical factors you ought to consider when selecting your choice of HD projector we looked at the size of your HD projector, size meaning really dimensions and its weight. This was to ensure that wherever the HD projector was being placed was a suitable location for that particular projector and it was not in danger of being accidentally broken or in a potentially dangerous position, for instance with cables that were generally in the way, or might conceivable fall to the floor. In addition weight was a factor as in the event that the HD projector had to be moved around frequently, for instance if it was in a non-permanent position then weight would have to be taken into account. In a nutshell a heavy HD projector is more likely to be dropped than an HD projector that was not so heavy.

In this post we are going to look at the fitting options that the particular HD projector you are interested in has available. This is likely to form a series of posts so in this particular one we are going to discuss how the HD projector will be set in a stable way on the integrated feet included within the case of the projector.

In the main the HD projector has adjustable feet. By adjustable I mean that there will likely be four separate feet each of which would be adjustable. The adjustability would arise from the use of a screw thread which enables the variability of height to be adjusted to a very high degree of accuracy. This enables you to ensure that the projector is either perfectly flat and stable, or if the surface upon which it is resting does not form a flat surface then you are still able to achieve a stable platform. Typically and HD projector is an expensive gadget and you wouldn’t want it to accidentally fall off whatever surface you had placed it upon. The key is therefore that once the HD projector is in place you ensure, by use of the adjustable feet mechanism that it is unlikely to fall off, even if the unit upon which it is placed is accidentally knocked.

This process should not present particular challenges and to remind you it is quite important as you do want to make sure that your HD projector is not involved in any unnecessary accidents.
